FMV IŞIK HIGH SCHOOL “TEARING DOWN WALLS” TEACHER-STUDENT SYMPOSIUM
On Friday, May 12, 2023, at FMV Işık High School within the scope of the 19 May Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day Week Activities, a teacher-student symposium with the theme “Tearing Down Walls” took place. The Turkish Language and Literature Department prepared an interdisciplinary project with the participation of our school teachers and students, based on William SUTCLIFFE's book called The Wall.
‘’Wars, natural disasters leave a long-lasting impression on various societies, although the existence of aid agencies act as the guardian angels, there are also heroes of novels and movies, who become guests in our lives with the different worlds they create. Societies are deeply impacted by the invisible walls that exist and how different technologies and approaches to education tear down these walls’’ etc. were the main topics of the symposium.
Under the UBD framework prepared by the Turkish Language and Literature, The Wall novel was covered in a 7-week period with 11th graders. In this process, our students, who made posters, criticism and comparison articles, research and presentation, completed the last leg of the project by participating in ‘’Tearing Down Walls’’ Symposium with their teachers.
Ayazağa and Erenköy Campuses also attended the event. FMV Director of Educational Institutions and Founder Representative, Müge YALIM ALPAN answered the questions of the students by participating in the talk titled “Tearing Down Walls with Education”.
We would like to thank all our Foundation and school administrators, all teachers and students who contributed to the symposium for their support and work.
