Noted translator and writer Alexander Dawe gave a lecture on methods and practices in translating Turkish literature into English on June 16th Wednesday afternoon. The event was hosted by Işık High School and was open to all Işık Schools High School students and teachers. Mr. Dawe spoke about his approach to translating words and ideas from one language into a second language and how he maintains a balance between staying true to the words as well as the thoughts of the author. We were very happy to have him meet with our students and faculty. We also had a chance to share some translation projects of our grade 9 students who participated in the interdisciplinary project on translating Turkish Poets’ works into English. We would also like to thank Gülse Sabina Geçgel, one of our grade 9 students for acting as the moderator of this lively seminar.
