The 17th Annual Session of Model United Nations Educational Scientific & Cultural Organization Conference March 26th - 28th, 2021
Bilkent Laboratory and International School in Ankara hosted MUNESCO ’21 online this year from March 26th - March 28th. MUNESCO is a very prestigious THIMUN affiliated conference that is listed among the best conferences in Turkey. This year MUNESCO hosted more than 400 participants online. This was the 17th year the conference was held and it was an honor that our student was included and invited to participate as a student officer!
The theme of MUNESCO ’21 was ‘BROADER VISION BRIGHTER FUTURE’, and had a strong focus on the importance of being open-minded and the importance of being able to look into an issue from different perspectives. The conference organized 11 committees. Our Işik High School student took a special interest in the topics of Education in General committee 2.
Melis İşmen made our school proud by applying to be a student officer and being accepted as a Deputy Chair of the Education Committee. She worked very hard prior to the conference starting back in December to research and learn about her committee and help prepare the conference with her fellow committee members from other schools. Her main duty was to prepare for the topic: Eliminating gender inequality in secondary education with emphasis on the Central African Republic. Melis researched and wrote a research report for her committee in February that was posted for other students to view and use as a tool to better understand the topic. We congratulate our student Melis İşmen on representing our school at the conference and taking on a new and challenging role! We hope to see her continue her success with the MUN club of FMV Ozel Işik Lisesi and to further her love of politics and make a change in our world.
