FMV Özel Işık Lisesi Model Birleşmiş Milletler Kulübü öğrencileri 27 Kasım-1 Aralık 2019 tarihleri arasında Üsküdar Amerikan Lisesinin ev sahipliğini yaptığı “TIMUN Model Birleşmiş Milletler Konferansı”nda Sırbistan’ı temsil ettiler. “Sivil Toplum, Güven ve Demokrasi” temalı konferansta öğrencimiz Kaan KURU, Sırbistan büyükelçisi olarak yaptığı açılış konuşmasıyla konferans organizasyon komitesi tarafından takdir edilmiştir.

Konferansta Zeynep Taşçıoğlu (GA1), Melis İşmen (Special Conference), Tuana Melek (GA2), Emir Yüksel (GA3), Defne Birsel (ECOSOC) ve Zeynep Algün (GA4) okulumuzu başarı ile temsil etmişlerdir.

TIMUN Üsküdar American  Academy Model United Nations Conference

November 27 –December 1 2019

Uskudar American hosted TIMUN ’19 this year on November 27th- December 1st. The conference included many local schools from around Turkey as well as international schools from Oman, Holland and Lebanon. TIMUN is the oldest Conference in Turkey. This was the 26th year the conference was held and it was an honor that our students were included and invited to participate at such an academic and highly regarded conference. 

The theme of TIMUN ‘19 was ‘Civil Society, Trust, and Democracy’, and was very suitable for our current world. Some of the issues discussed were: 1) Promoting development-oriented policies that support productive activities, decent job creation, entrepreneurship and innovation, 2) Determining the relationship between states and civil society in the rehabilitation of refugees, 3) Addressing conflicts arising from ownership of natural resources in overlapping Exclusive Economic Zones (EEZs), 4) Reevaluating agricultural policies to encourage ecological farm practices, 5) The question of returning terrorist group members to their countries of origin,  6) Tackling job insecurity and precariousness in economies with high underemployment rates and 7) Exploring the use and misuse of technology and digital tools in elections.

We took 6 student delegates who represented the delegation of Serbia along with 1 student ambassador of Serbia. This year’s students were highly motivated and showed hard work and developed themselves as well as contributed to this important conference to build upon their previous accomplishments. MUN club at FMV Ozel Isik Lisesi is rising in prestige, and hoping to continue to be included at such well-known and established conferences. We congratulate our students; Kaan Kuru who represented us as Ambassador of Serbia, Zeynep Taşçıoğlu who was a Serbian delegate in GA 1, Tuana Melek who was a Serbian delegate in GA 2, Melis İşmen who was a Serbian delegate of the Special Conference, Emir Yüksel who was a Serbian delegate in GA 3, E. Defne Birsel who was a Serbian delegate in ECOSOC, and Zeynep Algün who was a Serbian delegate in GA4.
