On 18 February 2019, Grade 7 students came together in Sacit Öncel Salon for the Story Slam activity. Story Slam is a storytelling competition where students are asked to use their imagination and creativity to make up stories using characters and settings drawn at random and to present them in a short time limit. It was a very entertaining contest, involving 8 teams of 3. The event had a first round, a semi-final and a final round, with the stakes of each round getting higher and higher. The winners advanced based on applause from the audience. Through the art of storytelling in the English language, we traveled to a police station, a karaoke bar, a wedding party and more, and we met all kinds of characters, from Greta Thunberg, to William Shakespeare, to our very own Ms. G! Our students displayed their wild imaginations and a combination of presentation and theatrical skills. Great fun was had by all, and our students proved how wonderfully they can create and express themselves in English.
